Temple Legend – The Story of Appam
Once, King Ubarishravas accidentally killed a Brahmin while hunting, resulting in Brahmahatthi Dosham. Seeking redemption, he approached Durvasa Muni, who instructed:
“To remove your dosham, you must feed one lakh people.”
The king arranged a grand feast. Before the crowd arrived, an old Brahmin appeared and ate all the food. Seeing the king’s devotion, the Brahmin requested an appam. After offering it, the Brahmin revealed Himself as Lord Vishnu, removing the king’s dosham.
This act gave the temple its fame and the deity the name Appakkudathaan.
